The Most Expensive World Footballer XI Of All Time
1. Striker: Gonzalo Higuain - £75.3 Million
With the money thrown around for forwards in the last few years, there are plenty of players that could fill this last slot and round off the front three. However, looking purely at true "strikers", the most expensive in history is Gonzalo Higuain. While Romelu Lukaku comes a very close second, neither the £75 million or £74 million Man United or Inter Milan paid for him respectively, tops the £75.3 million Juventus paid for Higuain.
The Argentine's best season came in the 2015-16 season, his last with Napoli before his big money move, scoring 38 goals in 42 games. Once in the black and white of Juventus, his production dropped, tallying 55 goals in 105 games. In August 2018 the striker moved to Milan on what was supposed to be a season long loan, but was cut short by the time the January transfer window came around.
Higuain's subsequent loan move to Chelsea did not re-ignite his career as planned, scoring just five goals, with two of those coming in a 5-0 demolition of Huddersfield. The most expensive striker in the world has fallen from grace somewhat, and will most likely leave Juventus again before the Italian transfer deadline.
