The Most Expensive World Footballer XI Of All Time

4. Centre Midfield: Kevin De Bruyne - £55 Million

Like Paul Pogba, Kevin De Bruyne is another whose career in English football benefited from a few years abroad. Whereas Pogba left United for Juventus, Kevin De Bruyne left Chelsea for Wolfsburg after a loan move to Werder Bremen and just three Premier League appearances for the Blues.

While Chelsea received £18 million for the Belgian in 2014, their loss was both Wolfsburg and Man City's gain. When the two teams agreed the transfer of De Bruyne just 18 months later, the German team received £55 million, and the English team received one of the best midfielders in the world.

There are plenty of players who command a ridiculous transfer fee and never live up to it, however this is not the case with De Bruyne. Ever since he entered the Premier League he has been consistently hailed as one of the greatest players in the league, with his ability to spread the ball effortlessly across the pitch being one of his greatest strengths.

Last season the Belgian struggled with injury problems, but heading into the 2019-20 season with a clean bill of health, De Bruyne will be looking to contribute heavily to yet another successful City season.
