Tottenham 1-1 Espanyol: 5 Key Things We Learned

2. Sandro & Kaboul Are Like New Signings

It was wonderful for Spurs fans to see Younes Kaboul emerge from the tunnel at half time and equally as great when Sandro came on a few minutes later. Both players received a rapturous reception from the White Hart Lane faithful and their potential contributions to the coming season should not be underestimated. It was particularly nice to see Sandro - one of football's genuine nice guys - after reports emerged last week that he had considered retiring from football following the severity of his recent injury. He will offer Spurs extra steel in midfield, which they could have done with during the second half of last season, while Kaboul's return offers Spurs much needed reinforcement at the back following the sale of Steven Caulker and the injury to Jan Vertonghen. It's easy to forget that, after a whole season out, Kaboul was arguably the Premier League's best defender two seasons ago. In both cases, it's just as good news for Spurs to have them back as it is to have signed the likes of Soldado and Paulinho. Their returns, in addition to the new signings, will offer Spurs much greater strength in depth than last season, which could be the difference between failing to qualify for the Champions League and actually gaining a Champions League spot (or even challenging for the Premier League title). Their new shaved bald heads, however, will divide opinion!
