Tottenham Hotspur Transfer News: Modric To Real Madrid For £30 Million?

Jose Mourinho has convinced the Real Madrid hierarchy to spend £30 million to secure the signature of Tottenham Hotspur star Luka Modric, according to a report in The Daily Mail. The Spanish giants are preparing the bid for the 26-year-old playmaker ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea who have both wanted to bring Modric to their clubs but have been priced out. Giving that Modric is unsettled at Spurs and wants to play at a Champions League club challenging for trophies, Madrid are confident of securing the move. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy turned down a £30 million offer from Chelsea last summer for Modric, reportedly holding out for an extra £5 million. One year later and with Spurs needing to do some re-building under a new manager, it is expected that £30 million will secure the move. Meanwhile Spurs are waiting on France manager Laurent Blanc to return from Euro 2012 before they make a decision on who their replacement for Harry Redknapp will be. They have spoken to Andre Villas-Boas at least twice and possibly as many as ten other candidates including Wigan's Roberto Martinez, Everton's David Moyes and former Schalke boss Ralf Ragnick but Levy wants to meet with Blanc before deciding on who the best candidate for success is. The indecision from Levy has reportedly disappointed Villas-Boas who feels it is a lack of confidence in him and Everton manager David Moyes has publically said he is looking to take Everton back to European football next season and distanced himself from the role, likely because he feels Blanc will get the job.

'All I can say is there has been no contact from Spurs,' he said. 'There has been no contact and that is how it is. I'm the Everton manager. 'I'm planning, I'm out here (in Poland) having a look at players, talking to my own players and trying to get on with being manager of Everton.'
