UFC 175: 10 Things To Watch Out For

1. Chris Weidman Adjusting To Face Another Former World Champion

David Becker/AP/Press Association ImagesDavid Becker/AP/Press Association ImagesEven though Anderson Silva is the greatest fighter of all-time, it was clear that he met his match against Chris Weidman. Through a combined four rounds of action, Weidman overpowered him in the clinch, on the ground, and used excellent technique to defeat Silva. Silva hadn't faced someone that was both a high level wrestler and Jiu-Jitsu specialist of Weidman's caliber. While he must be relieved to not be fighting Silva again, he still manages to get a step-up in competition. Vitor Belfort wouldn't have been a step-up, but his opponent now certainly is. Lyoto Machida poses a significant amount of problems against anyone. Besides Silva, his timing is arguably the greatest of all time. Fighters always have issue in trying to close the distance against him, which leads them to rushing in wildly and being either tagged or knocked out. This may be the first time that Weidman is facing someone that he won't be able to completely overpower. He soundly defeated Demian Maia, who is now a welterweight. Mark Munoz and Alessio Sakara weren't in great shape, when he defeated them. Weidman will have to adjust to facing someone, who has been fighting as a light heavyweight for most of his career. Machida's style may be difficult to understand for casual fans, but he's very disciplined, dangerous, and will prove to be a far more difficult test than Silva did.
