Ukraine vs England - 5 Ways To Solve Roy Hodgson's Striking Crisis
5. Play Two Up Front
With Roy Hodgson not necessarily needing a win in Kiev, but also trying to avoid a damaging defeat, he could play something of a risky tactic by sticking two up front against Ukraine. Though he has a dearth in options in the striking department, the option to play with two recognised strikers is available. Rickie Lambert is guaranteed to be one of the first names on the team sheet such is the injury pileup blighting the Three Lions, while Jermain Defoe could join him. Defoe has scored 19 international goals in 54 appearances for the Three Lions and is a safe pair of hands, though there are question marks over his match fitness. Against Moldova, Hodgson played an attacking 4-3-3 formation, and though it is possible he could stick with this, he could also revert to the more cautious (and much maligned) 4-4-2, even though this has come in for criticism recently. Option 1: 4-4-2 Hart; Walker, Cahill, Jagielka, Cole; Wilshere, Lampard, Gerrard, Walcott; Lambert, Defoe
