West Brom Transfer News: Baggies Make Late Bid For Craig Gardner

West Brom manager Pepe Mel is looking to make a late night bid for Sunderland€™s Craig Gardner. Reports are circulating that the club may be looking to take the midfielder on loan until the end of the season. However, it seems much more likely that any deal will be a permanent transfer. Pepe Mel is looking to strengthen his squad as they are set to face a relegation fight in the next few months and the Spaniard sees Gardner as a perfect addition to his midfield options. The 27 year old has been at Sunderland since 2011 and has made 75 appearances for the Black Cats, netting 11 goals. He has been left somewhat in the cold though since the arrival of Gus Poyet as manager, generally only making substitute appearances. With the proposed move of Lee Cattermole to Stoke cancelled along with the signing of Liam Bridcutt to the Wearside club, it appears that Sunderland may be willing to allow Gardner to leave the club. If they don€™t sell the player now they risk losing him in the summer as he will be a free agent unless he signs a contract extension before then. There isn€™t long left before the transfer window shuts though, so West Brom will have to hurry up if they want to ensure the deal goes through. What do West Brom and Sunderland fans think of this transfer? Do you think it is a good piece of business for both clubs?
