Where Are They Now: Jürgen Klopp's First Liverpool XI

8. Philippe Coutinho

There was a time when football on the red side of Merseyside revolved around Philippe Coutinho. He was the key to much of Brendan Rogers' Liverpool regime after taking the reins from Luis Suarez. Signed for just £8 million from Inter Milan, the little magician was something of a prodigy in Liverpool, playing with the same excitement, flair, and talent we've typically come to expect from his part of the world.

However, in 2018, Barcelona made a ludicrous bid for the playmaker, the kind of offer you just can't say no to. So the Reds accepted the £142 million from the Spanish giants, and invested it wisely in two players that would become integral to their success in the following years, Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson Becker.

Unfortunately, Coutinho's Barcelona career never truly took off the way either he or the club would have wanted. Seen as something of a replacement for Neymar after his move to PSG, he never even got close to the same kind of performances of his predecessor.

After managing just 13 league goals in 52 appearances across two seasons, the Brazilian was loaned out to Bayern Munich. Now, after just one season in Germany, Coutinho's name is constantly being thrown around with regards to a return to the Premier League, though usually these rumours would have him playing in the red of either Manchester or North London rather than Merseyside.
