Where Are They Now: Jürgen Klopp's First Liverpool XI
6. Emre Can
A relative unknown when he signed for Liverpool in 2014, Emre Can was able to establish himself as a key part of the Liverpool squad under both Brendan Rodgers and Jürgen Klopp. He was the epitome of a box-to-box midfielder, acting as a solid anchor in the middle of the pitch while also chipping in with a handful of goals.
His performances got the attention of clubs across Europe, but it wasn't his actions on the pitch that signaled the end of his time on Merseyside as much as it was the Reds' reluctance to pay him the money he wanted. Can, unable to get on the same page with the club, allowed his contract to expire at the end of the 2017-18 season, making his last game in a Liverpool shirt the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.
He was soon snapped up by Juventus on a free transfer that same summer, and enjoyed a strong first season in Italy. He made 37 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals, but was ultimately left out of the team's Champions League squad for the 2019-20 season.
In January of 2020, the midfielder was sent back to Germany for a loan spell with Klopp's former team, Borussia Dortmund. Just weeks later, Can's transfer was made permanent to the tune of €24 million.
