Where Are They Now: Jürgen Klopp's First Liverpool XI
5. Alberto Moreno
In Andy Robertson, Liverpool currently have one of the best left backs in the Premier League, possibly even the world. However, this certainly wasn't the case when Klopp first arrived at the club. Back in 2015, Liverpool's left back situation left a lot to be desired.
It's difficult to really talk of Alberto Moreno as a defender, because he did precisely zero defending during his time at Liverpool. The Spaniard acted as a wing back, and could cause the opposition's right back some difficulties, but not enough to justify the hole he left when Liverpool had their backs against the wall.
So low was the quality of Moreno's performances that he was replaced for an entire season by James Milner, a midfielder who had never spent a day playing the position. Yet still, he was able to keep Moreno out of the first team.
After the signing of Robertson in 2017, the Spaniard fell even further down the pecking order, eventually leaving the club at the end of his contract in 2019. He was quickly snapped up by Villarreal, who brought the player back to Spain. Last season he made 18 La Liga appearances, helping his new club qualify for next season's Europa League.
