Where Are They Now: Jürgen Klopp's First Liverpool XI

3. Martin Skrtel

Throughout his time at Anfield, thanks in part to his partnership with Dan Agger in central defence, Martin Skrtel became something of a cult hero to the Liverpool faithful. His no nonsense playing style at the back was similar to that of Jamie Carragher, and the Kop appreciated it.

He played on Merseyside for almost nine years, but didn't last too long after Jürgen Klopp arrived. Thanks to injuries and the manager's preference of the partnership between Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho, Skrtel found himself on the pitch a lot less than usual in the 2015-16 season.

The centre back eventually left the club in 2016, moving to Fenerbahce, earning himself the first team football he wasn't being given in England.

Three years after his £5 million move to Turkey, the former Slovakia captain was involved in one of the most bizarre transfer sagas in recent memory. Skrtel made the move from Turkey to Atalanta in Italy before having his contracted terminated by mutual consent just three weeks later, claiming he just didn't fit the system. The former Liverpool defender now plays his football for Istanbul Basaksehir, current champions of the Turkish Super Lig.
