Why Newcastle United's Best Striker Doesn't Even Play For Them

In-form Armstrong is a record breaker.

As we continue to fight for Premier League survival, one of our own players is lighting up League One. Nineteen-year-old Adam Armstrong hit the ground running as soon as he joined Coventry City in the summer on a year-long loan and he is currently rewriting the club's record books. He started the season in fine form, scoring a brace on the opening day of the season against Wigan, and the youngster hasn't looked back since. With 19 goals in 26 games so far, the diminutive Geordie has his sights set on becoming the first Sky Blues player to score over 30 goals in a season since the 1930s and he potentially has 15 games left in which to do so. His double last Saturday already made him the first player at the club to score seven braces or more in a single season since the 58/59 season. How the Toon could do with his goals at this moment in time. With Mitrovic appearing to lack the killer instinct required in front of goal to be a top striker and Papiss Cisse linked with a big-money move to China (if he doesn't get caught offside) we don't have a player who appears able to stick the ball in the back of the net often enough to lift us away from danger. The closest we have is Gigi Wijnaldum and even then if it's away from St James' Park it seems to be an issue. With Emmanuel Riviere being labelled as being 'like a new signing' it doesn't breed confidence as the player only has a solitary goal to his name in the Black and White stripes. As we struggle to get into double figures in the goal charts away from home, it is clear that the cutting edge Armstrong could provide could be crucial to us staying in the Premier League, but McClaren et al appear happy to stick with what they have at their disposal. Would you call back the teenager? Of course you bloody would...
