2. Entertainment
One thing that Wigan Athletic provided very regularly was entertainment. A side that fear no one, The Latics were a tough test for most sides in the Premier League as shown in their win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final which was dubbed by many as David vs. Goliath. Interestingly the final became the fourth in the last six between two top tier teams to end 1-0, and even spookier is that last season's FA Cup winners lost their next league game 4-1. Anyway, apologies for the tangent, Wigan became the first side to be relegated from the top tier whilst winning the FA Cup in the same season; fans have endured a mixture of heartbreak and elation. Although their goalscoring record this season (45) being relatively low in comparison to other sides, entertainment has been omnipresent in games featuring The Latics. From the amazing late equaliser against Queens Park Rangers to the shocking turnaround against West Brom, Wigan have remained one of the most watchable sides in the Premier League and have proved why many neutrals root for them. The attacking formation that Martinez employs guarantees an attacking style which adds to the entertainment provided by the FA Cup winners. With the trickery of McManaman and the tenacity of Espinoza, Wigan have shown why their survival hopes were alive for the most part of this season with the form of the aforementioned two along with the likes of Robles, Maloney and Kone amongst others. If Wigan can keep their entertaining style next season, expect to see many of their games to appear on television. And I for one will be watching them any chance that I can.
