Wigan Relegated: 5 Reasons They Will Be Sorely Missed In The Premier League

1. Survival Sunday Drama

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhMJIL3w5AU As a life-long Manchester United fan, there is nothing I love more than the drama that Survival Sunday brings. Although the pain suffered from 2011-12's final day was unbearable, for the neutral it must have been breathtaking and exhilarating. And there is no side that brings more drama on a final day of a Premier League season than frequent relegation battlers Wigan Athletic. The stage was set for another final day packed full of nail-biting action, with Wigan scoring in the last minute against QPR to equalise and scoring under similar circumstances to equalise against Arsenal on the stroke of half time. After going on to lose the fixture against Arsenal and subsequently dropping down to the second tier in the imminent future, the upcoming 38th set of fixtures of Premier League football seem almost unnecessary as many fates have already been sealed - with the exception of the race for Champions League football between Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. The last two seasons have seen the Latics go from almost certain relegation to safety in a matter of weeks. The latter of the two saw Wigan win 7 of their last 9 including Arsenal away and Manchester United at home, a remarkable feat which left them finishing in 15th place and guaranteeing an eighth consecutive season in top flight English football. In 2010-11, Athletic had a similar great escape with two consecutive victories that saw them end up in 16th. Although Wigan were unsuccessful in their attempt at a traditional late survival, they certainly put up a great fight and many predicted they would do it despite being 4-points off the 17th position. Let's hope they can put together a successful campaign in the Championship and we will see more Survival Sunday action.
