World Cup 2014: 25 Most Memorable Moments

5. Tim Howard's Heroics

In this list there have been plenty of mentions of great goalkeeping displays and without a doubt Tim Howards display against Belgium is the finest. In England we are greatly aware of this man€™s talents but when USA took on Belgium he caught the world€™s attention.

In this second round match, Howard made a World Cup record of 15 saves in and was unfortunate to end up on the losing side as the US got knocked out the tournament as they lost 2-1; Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku shots managing to beat the USA stopper.

The team€™s performance and Howard€™s in particular caught their homeland€™s attention and caused them to embrace football and this could be the World Cup that finally means this great game can challenge baseball and American football at youth and professional level in the US. The team€™s efforts also warranted a call from US President Barack Obama, after the game he spoke to Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey, thanking them for the way they represented their country on the World Stage.

Howard€™s performance also caught the imagination of social media, with Howard becoming the feature of many memes. Including him saving the Earth from an Asteroid, saving Mufasa from his death and even him running for US Secretary of Defence.
