World Cup 2014: 25 Most Memorable Moments

1. 3 Goals, 179 Seconds

There can be no surprises that at number 1 we have the astonishing semi-final between Brazil and Germany, a game that produced one of the most shocking results in World Cup history.

There were worries for the host nation even before kick-off, with Neymar out with a back injury and Thiago Silva suspended after a stupid yellow card in the quarter final. These worries heightened in the 11th minute as Thomas Muller opened the scoring after losing David Luiz at a corner.

When Miroslav Klose scored a record 16th World Cup goal he started what has to be the weirdest 179 seconds of football you are likely to see. Before you could breathe Kroos has got Germany€™s third and fourth and the game was over with more than an hour still to play. Khediera added a fifth and then after the break Andre Schurrle scored twice making it a sensational seven for the Germans.

This result led to strong comparisons with the Maracanzo, in 1950 Brazil played the World Cup final against Uruguay in the Maracana and threw away a 1-0 lead, surrendering the trophy on home soil. This has since been a blotch in Brazil€™s footballing history and their night against the Germans will be treated the same.
