World Cup 2018: 10 Players Who Don't Deserve To Be Going Home

3. Heung-Min Son

There are some players who went to the World Cup with almost all of their nation's hopes on their shoulders. Heung-Min Son was one of those players. South Korea have a few talented individuals, but Son is by far the standout man and South Korean fans were really hoping he could be the difference-maker to help the Asian nation escape a very tricky group.

He couldn't quite pull it off, but Son did his level best, scoring two goals along the way and being involved in pretty much all of his side's big attacking moves. He scored a fantastic curling strike in the final seconds of South Korea's clash with Mexico, but the game was already lost and finished 2-1. Then, he enjoyed the distinct honour of tapping into an empty net against the defending World Champions.

Against Germany, Son was in the right place at the right time after German goalie Manuel Neuer, who was playing as an advanced outfield player at the time, lost the ball. The Tottenham forward raced onto a teammate's pass and tapped the ball home to seal a remarkable 2-0 victory, ensuring that the South Koreans went home with their heads held high after a brilliant win against a team they were expected to lose to.
