Gouffran's score is only as high as 4.5 for the simple reason that he did work hard all game and never gave up, but in all honesty he was dreadful. Strangely deployed as one of the holding duo in a 4-2-3-1 until Rolando Aarons went off injured and so he was pushed out wide, Gouffran is certainly not a natural in defensive-midfield - and it showed. Wasteful in possession and determined to take 30-yard pot-shots at every given opportunity, Gouffran just could not help get Newcastle going. It is difficult to see how he can break into Steve McClaren's first-team plans going forward.
