10 Doctor Who Spin Offs That Are Just Waiting To Happen
7. Malcolm's Musings
Lee Evans has recently revealed - to the dismay of his legion of fans - that he'll be retiring from comedy at the end of his latest tour to spend more time with his family. With that in mind, he probably isn't looking to commit to be the star of his own Doctor Who spin iff series. What a shame. If he was, though, this would (probably) more than fit the bill. A full length series documenting the no doubt hilarious daily escapades of his character from Planet of the Dead, Malcolm Taylor (not to be confused with Macolm Tucker, an altogether very different sort of character played by Peter Capaldi in The Thick Of It). Because let's face it, Lee's performance of this loveable UNIT scientific advisor in the 2009 "special" was pretty much the saving grace of an otherwise pretty mediocre adventure and not even the stunning wide shots of the Dubai dessert were enough to steal the show from his effortless portrayal of the witty Welshman and his heartwarming admiration for a certain Time Lord. Just picture the opening titles. The alarm goes off and Malcolm wakes up. There's a (signed) picture of him and the Doctor above his bed. He salutes it as he puts on his glasses, ready for a brand new day of analysing the latest alien excursions. Then he trips on his slippers and falls down the stairs. Classic Malcolm. You've got to hand it him, though. He's a pretty clever guy, really (when was the last time you closed a wormhole?) and, while he hasn't appeared on screen since his debut, it's assumed that he's still keeping himself busy at UNIT after his name was mentioned in passing by Kate Stewart during The Day of the Doctor. It could've be any, Malcolm, of course. But it probably wasn't. The Doctor is his hero, and Malcolm is one of ours. Who wants to start the petition!?
