6. Smith And Jones

Martha Jones is no stranger to the world of Doctor Who spin offs having made a brief stint in Series 2 of Torchwood between her liaisons with the Tenth Doctor. The last time we saw her, in part two of The End of Time, it was revealed that she had left her role as UNIT's Medical Director to protect the planet alongside Mickey Smith - and she had the hair braids to prove it. Oh, she was also married to Mickey, too, because... well... surprise! Bet you didn't see that one coming, did you? Saying that though, it's no real shock that they ended up hitting it off after aiding the Doctor in his battle against Davros and the Daleks in the Series 4 finale. You could say that they were two lost souls whose respective tenures with the Doctor only served to highlight their underlying insecurities, though they both ultimately became better and stronger people as a result of it. Not only did their new romance hark back to Martha's first appearance in Smith and Jones (see what they did there?), it also left the door open for them to return to the series at a later date, or, you know, in their very own spin off series documenting the highs and lows of their new life as freelance Earth defenders. Either, or. After all, the human race needs someone to protect us from alien excursions when the Doctor's not around, especially as it doesn't look like Torchwood's being much use in that department these days. Sigh.
