10 Forgotten Horror TV Shows You MUST Watch

2. American Gothic

American Gothic
CBS

Developed by American network mainstay Shaun Cassidy, American Gothic was a one-season horror series that aired on CBS from 1995 to 1996 before its unexpected cancellation 18 episodes into its originally planned 22 episode run. Set in the fictional South Carolina town of Trinity, the plot follows Caleb Temple (Lucas Black) who is caught in the diabolical machinations of the town's seemingly affable sheriff Lucas Buck (Gary Cole).

American Gothic is no televisual masterpiece, but it surprisingly works well in balancing out its mystical elements with touchy real-life subject matter in a way that feels a bit clunky, but delightfully so. Cole excels in embodying a character as repulsive as Sheriff Buck, making sure he comes across as despicable without becoming unwatchable, and Black impressively holds his own as the sheriff's young and troubled illegitimate son.

Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after one season and never found its footing as its mystery unfolded.
