22. George Little

George Villiers Little appeared as Haroun ed-Din in the First Doctor serial The Crusade. He worked closely with Jaqueline Hill's Barbara Wright, as their characters formed a bond after the death of his wife and son. It is this bond that saves her life, with Haroun ed-Din acting as the hero of the piece.

Little would have a long career. Born in 1928 in West Yorkshire, he would go on to appear in Fiddler On The Roof, Evita, and Poirot. He is credited on the soundtrack for 1987's Beauty And The Beast, in which he performed This Life Is For Me. Music ran in his family, as he is the father of violinist Tasmin Little.

He may perhaps be best known for his role as Reverand Edward Ruskin, on Emmerdale. He played the role from 1972 - 1975, and again in 1983. His first story saw him accept the confession of a murderer - which is surely an interesting first week on the job!

Little passed away on January 8th. He was 93 years old.
