6 Podcasts Being Adapted To TV (And 5 More That Should Be)

4. Should Be: Wooden Overcoats

Limetown Show
David K. Barnes

A ridiculous and fun sitcom podcast about two warring funeral homes in a small English town, podcast Wooden Overcoats already captures a very specific brand of English wit that would be welcome in more modern television.

The show is fantastically produced, unerringly silly and populated by characters with names such as Rudyard and Antigone Funn (the protagonist siblings) in a village called Piffling Vale on the island of Piffling in the English channel.

Unlike the other entries on this list, Wooden Overcoats is less interested in the drama of crime or horror or mystery as it is in the drama of rival funeral homes, old and budding romances, and the everyday concerns of a tight-knit community.

With its lovable cast of over-the-top yet relatable characters and its quick fire comedy, it's unsurprising how many podcast awards and excellent reviews this series has garnered, including the British Podcast Awards.

It may not need to be put to television to be thoroughly enjoyed, like most great podcasts, but television would absolutely be blessed with its presence if it ever hopped over, nonetheless - a return to form for excellent and iconic British comedies of the past.
