Doctor Who: 10 Most Shocking Moments

2. The Identity Of The Valeyard

The Valeyard as a character is extremely complex and very difficult to explain. He is seen throughout the Trial of a Timelord, and is actually the bad guy, no matter how the evidence appears to the High Council and the Doctor. He tampered with footage in the Matrix, one example being Peri's death. Basically he's a guy everyone wants to hate. The Valeyard accuses the Doctor of genocide as well. The Valeyard was a collection of all the Doctor's darkest potential and thoughts, and was basically a form between the Doctor's twelfth and thirteenth regeneration. The thought that this manipulative, evil, egotistic character could be some form of the Doctor is pure genius, because no one could ever see the Doctor as evil. Sure, the Doctor in some ways was egotistic, and manipulative, but nowhere on the level of the Valeyard.
