Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Was The Bad Guy

3. You Would Make A Good Dalek

The Ninth Doctor is the first incarnation from the revival era of Doctor Who, born in the aftermath of the last day of the Time War. The incarnation believes he has just wiped out the Time Lords and the Daleks and so is forced to carry that guilt with him. Rose Tyler is directly responsible for helping this man to grow beyond his pain, though this is severely tested when they encounter a lone Dalek on Earth.

As the Doctor would later lament, they always survive, they always win despite him throwing everything at them. With all of the hate and pain that was inside him following the events of the war, he funnels this into his treatment of his enemy. It is a stark moment when a Dalek can look you in the eye and say that you would make a fine member of their race.

Unsurprisingly, the Dalek escapes its confines and begins murdering anyone it can find, though stops short of killing Rose. The Doctor rushes to chase and then kill it. While from his point of view he was totally justified in his belief that the Dalek would kill everyone, he didn't count on it to grow or feel alone. Rose manages to get through to him in the moments before he can train his weapon on it, though in this case, it was a very close call before he stepped over the edge.
