Doctor Who: 14 Cool Details Revealed In Steven Moffat's Wedding Of River Song Commentary

1. The Garden Scene Was ANOTHER Late Rewrite

Because Amy's brutal murder of Kovarian was implemented at the last minute, the final garden scene also had to be changed at the last minute.

This is because Moffat now needed to make "sense" of the terrible act that Amy has committed, showing how it has affected her and changed her.

This then has the knock-on effect of giving River a big reason to tell Amy about the Doctor's survival. River can see that her mother is troubled and saddened, that she needs to see the Doctor to make her feel better. So, she spills the beans out of her love for Amy, rather than just doing it for the benefit of the audience.

Late rewrites and reshoots are often viewed as a bad thing, but clearly... they can be a good thing sometimes.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
