Doctor Who: Ranking Every Spin-Off From Worst To Best
6. Gallifrey
Here's a spin-off for those fans that love the brief visits to the Doctor's homeworld that we get in the TV show. Starting in 2004, Gallifrey is unusual in the Whoniverse for being a full-on space opera, as the series deals with the political conspiracies and timey-wimey dangers that threaten the planet of the Time Lords. In fact, the producers have said that they intended it to be a sort of cosmic version of The West Wing.
The series has developed a lot of over its eight series, but largely it centres around two of the Doctor's former companions. Namely, Romana II - who is now Gallifrey's Lady President - and Leela, who acts as her bodyguard and close confidante. A load of other favourites like K-9, Ace, Omega and the Daleks have also appeared over the seasons.
The outer-space political edge of Gallifrey might make it seem more like the Star Wars prequels than Doctor Who, but the series follows two of the most popular companions and offers the fullest portrayal of the Time Lords' society you'll find anywhere.
