10 Biggest Wrestling Scandals Of The 2000s
9. Trish Barks Like A Dog
The 2000s were not kind to WWE's female performers. Degrading swimsuit contests; limited TV time; an overall lack of care or interest; you could fill a whole list with the nonsense these women had to put up with. For this entry, however, we're focusing on one of the most infamous moments in the promotion's history.
Part of the build to Vince McMahon versus his son Shane at WrestleMania X-Seven involved the creepy old promoter having an affair with Trish Stratus. On the March 5th 2001 edition of Raw, Vince decided he'd had enough of his mistress and decided to humiliate her.
In order to prove her loyalty, Vince ordered Trish to strip down to her underwear, get on her knees, and "bark like a dog". Even by Attitude Era standards, this brutal display of misogyny is hard to watch.
Some commentators have defended the angle, including Trish herself, as it led to Vince getting his comeuppance at WrestleMania. Many others have used it to criticise the company, though, especially when it comes to its portrayal of women. There's a reason it was left out of Trish's Hall of Fame induction video.
