Arguably one of the best midfielders of all time, Luka Modrić just won his fourth Champions League with Real Madrid and is one of the most decorated Croatian players ever, earning dozens of individual awards and being ranked in the same bracket as legendary striker Davor Šuker.

While some midfielders specialise in offensive or defensive skills, the former Tottenham man is one of the most hard-working, tenacious and complete midfielders in the game right now, equally adept at making chances as he is at tracking back and controlling the tempo of matches. Captain of the national side, he's played 105 times for his country and scored 12 goals in the process.

Serving as an inspiration to countless young players all around the world, the 32-year-old is one of the smartest footballers in the game and his talents have shown no sign of waning as he was just named in the Champions League Team of the Season for the third time in a row.
