3. Liverpool v Everton
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXUTR1OWsgE The Merseyside Derby has been contested between two of the closest territorial rivals since 1894. The stadiums are walking distance between each other and it is currently the longest running derby game in English top flight football as the two teams have met every season since 1962/63. Known locally as "the working mans club", Everton have lived in the shadow of their crosstown rivals for years as Liverpool Football Club have asserted themselves as one of the most successful clubs in Europe. The Reds have won 19 league titles to go with their five European Cup victories and are worthy of the "big boy" title in Merseyside. However, in recent years Everton have reduced the gap between the two and have in fact finished the last two Premier League seasons ahead of their biggest rivals. These fixtures generate a mammoth amount of enthusiasm in the city of Liverpool and I was lucky enough to see one myself only a few months ago. The intensity of the fans and the players created an atmosphere I'd never seen before. For now, Evertonians can claim that they are at the forefront of footballing superiority in Liverpool, which will only add to the rivalry in the coming years. It will be unacceptable to the Liverpool Football Club to finish behind Everton for a third consecutive season, which makes the next two fixtures crucially important to one of the biggest footballing rivalries in the world.
