UFC 1 was the company's first MMA event. An eight man tournament, no weight classes, no judges and no time outs, a tournament created purely to find out which fighting disciple reigned supreme. The semi-final saw Brazilian Jiu Jitsu master Royce Gracie face professional wrestler Ken Shamrock.

The sheer size difference between the two was clear to see and had fans wondering how Gracie would deal with the power of Shamrock. Jiu Jitsu wasn't hugely popular in mainstream sport at the time and Gracie put on a flawless display, showing size didn’t matter when you have a skill set as in-depth as his. He went on to win the tournament and instantly stapled his name as an MMA god.

The two would meet twice more and would go on to be one of the most legendary matchups in MMA history.
