As the 2005/2006 season came to a close, Alex Ferguson's Manchester United were hot on Chelsea's tail. Mourinho wanted another league title but the Scot conspired against him constantly. Back at the ranch, rumours of furious arguments with Peter Kenyon and other Chelsea executives were abound, while key members of his squad were losing their form at the end of another tiring campaign after fighting on all fronts.

Upon being asked what his biggest concern was, Mourinho was clear. "For me, the pressure is bird flu; I am feeling a lot of pressure with the swan in Scotland," he claimed. Journalists laughed nervously, unbelieving that the revelation that a large white aquatic bird having the sniffles north of the border could seriously be keeping the man awake at night.

"I am serious. You are laughing but I am serious. I am more scared of the bird flu than football. What is football compared with life? A swan with bird flu, for me, that is the drama of the last two days. I have to buy some masks and stuff. I am serious. Maybe for my team as well."

He went on to win the league by eight points. Perhaps he was telling the truth after all? Another mind game was won by the great man that day. Fans have often called his tactics boring, but as far as his antics off the pitch go, he's pure box-office.
