At around the same time that Spurs were said to be chasing Matej Vydra, they were also linked to a player who was arguably plying his trade in a weaker league than the Championship - the Scottish Premier League. That player was Celtic's Gary Hooper. Hooper, who was 25 years old at the time, had previously played at clubs like Scunthorpe United, Southend United and Grays Athletic, was refusing to sign a new contract at Celtic Park and Spurs were said to be monitoring the situation. Hooper would actually move to Norwich City - who were in the Premier League alongside Spurs at the time - and, as they got relegated, he is now playing the Championship. To say he isn't flourishing for the Canaries would be an understatement - in fact, he barely gets a game. He has scored eight goals in 37 appearances in all competitions and was never going to the striker Spurs needed.
