Very recently, in 2014, there were stories linking German striker Lukas Podolski with a move to White Hart Lane. There are a number of reasons this was a nothing story and a strange link; first, Podolski plays for Spurs' bitter North London rivals Arsenal and doesn't really play an awful lot - the last thing Spurs want is an Arsenal cast-off. Second, he thrives in a 4-4-2 formation and signing him to play in Spurs' 4-2-3-1 would just be creating more of the same problems Spurs already have. Finally, he clearly hates Spurs - as emphasised when he commented about the story linking him to the club by saying "Hell will freeze over before this transfer would happen" on his personal Twitter account. Media nonsense at its absolute finest. Or worst. Whichever way you want to look at it.
