Following Cardiff City's relegation back to the Championship after a mere one season in the Premier League, Spurs were one of a host of clubs linked to their best player that season - Scottish international goalkeeper David Marshall. Spurs already had Hugo Lloris, Brad Friedel and Heurelho Gomes (who has since left) on their books at the time and Marshall would have struggled to get a look in at the club. There was also the simple question as to why Spurs would even want him when they already had goalkeepers of equal and/or greater ability to Marshall. What's even more bizarre is that Spurs did actually sign another top quality goalkeeper, who was previously first choice in a Premier League team, who was prepared to fight it out with Hugo Lloris (in other words, sit on the bench 99% of the time) in Swansea City's Dutch international Michel Vorm. Vorm was obviously different to the average goalkeeper, as most first choice goalkeepers wouldn't move to another club in their late twenties to potentially see out their prime years on a substitute bench.
