10 Boyhood Man Utd Fans The Club Should Have Signed
1. Jack Butland
OK, so the last position Man United need to be worried about is the one between the posts. They seem to have that covered due to having possibly the finest shot-stopper in the world. David De Gea’s cat-like reflexes were probably the difference between the club slumping to a fifth-placed finish and ending up with a disastrous mid-table berth.
However, Jack Butland is probably worth skywards of £30 million in this market. He’s 23, a full England international and has just enjoyed a wonderful season of football for Stoke City. Touted as the next big thing, Joe Hart will be sweating over his place in the England side and rightly so, with this talent breathing down his neck.
De Gea may have signed a contract tying him to the club until 2019, but these deals are worth less than the flimsy parchment they're written on these days. The narrative is becoming increasingly predictable, in that Real Madrid will soon get bored of Keylor Navas, through no fault of his, and will seek a household name as his replacement. The Red Devils could do with having somebody ready in waiting… and not Sergio Romero.
The Stoke shot-stopper is another self-confessed United fan, having grown up idolising Danish legend Peter Schmeichel.
European nights at the Theatre of Dreams or cold Wednesday nights (yes, the cliché is worn) at Stoke-on-trent ? Hmm...
