10 Concerns Man Utd Should Have Ahead Of The New Season

6. Too Many No10's?

Last month, Louis van Gaal said he has inherited a 'broken, unbalanced team' from the Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes administrations, and believes it is a difficult time to take over as Manchester United manager. The club finished seventh last season while the aforementioned departures of Vidic, Ferdinand and Evra has left the side looking lopsided. Van Gaal also pointed out he has too many No10's. In Shinji Kagawa (pictured), Adnan Januzaj, Juan Mata and even Wayne Rooney, United have four players who can play in this role, and the former Netherlands boss believes this is bad news. "We have four number 10s, so it is not balanced in my eyes," he said recently. The new United manager will clearly struggle to make everyone happy next season as he attempts to cram players into his new-look formation. Rooney has historically had problems with being played out of position, Kagawa is growing frustrated with limited playing time having played just five full games last season while dropping record-signing Mata to the bench would create obvious friction. Then there's the issue of trying to maintain and improve the development of rookie Januzaj. Van Gaal is going to have to break a few eggs to make an omelette next season and could be forced to sell one of his four No10's - most likely Kagawa - to keep the likes of Rooney and Mata happy. Which is a real shame because the Japan international is a quality player, and has been unfortunate since signing from Borussia Dortmund.
