5. The Patrice Evra Racism Scandal

Depending upon which group of fans you ask, Luis Suarez will either be remembered with glowing affection or chiding hostility. Manchester United fans in particular won€™t have too many a nice word to say about the Uruguayan, especially after one of his most controversial moments in a Liverpool shirt in 2011.

In December of that year, United and Liverpool had fought out a 1-1 draw at Anfield. During the contest, Suarez and Red Devils defender Patrice Evra had a coming together, and it would later transpire that Suarez had racially abused the United star. An eight-match suspension swiftly followed, along with a £40,000 fine.

Upon returning from his suspension - against none other than United in a Premier League clash in February 2012 - Suarez created further controversy when he refused to shake Evra's hand in the build-up, sparking furious scenes which included Evra attempting to forcibly shake his hand and Rio Ferdinand snubbing the Uruguayan in kind.
