The only English club on this list, Dulwich Hamlet play their football in the Isthmian League Premier Division. Like many of the clubs on this list, it’s Dulwich Hamlet’s identity rather than footballing prowess that makes them so endearing to lovers of the beautiful game. They’re probably the most liberal club in England.
Dulwich Hamlet are one of the few clubs to have a black manager and were the first to have a Black History Month exhibition in English football, they were the first non-league club to use the rainbow laces and recently played against Stonewall FC; the UK’s first entirely openly gay football team. A pretty sizeable leap forward from when Graham Le Saux was called gay because he read The Guardian and went to museums.
It’s £10 for entry, they serve local beer and you can smoke. Yes, they’ll get a lot of stick because they are considered by many to be hipster wankers, but honestly, the fans seem like they’re having more fun at one of Dulwich Hamlet’s home games than at any other club in the top tier of British football.
