There always seems to be two categories, when it comes to fight IQ. There are fighters that want bonuses to help their bank account. Then the other category persists of fighters who use their strengths in climbing up the ladder. Cormier falls in the later category and he embraces that. In past interviews, he remained adamant on sticking with his fighting style. Even when he received boos against Roy Nelson, he stuck to the game plan of using his speed and wrestling to pick apart the slower Nelson. Cormier doesnt try to be something hes not by looking to throw wild uppercuts or try for arm bars on difficult angles. In his victory over Frank Mir, his objective was to keep the fight standing due to avoid being in any potential submissions. That objective came to fruition, as he controlled Mir against the cage and used his speed to pick him apart in another dominant victory. The sound of boos and potential bonuses dont cross his mind. All that matters is to keep pushing towards getting a title shot. Dont expect him to stand and trade with Jones for very long.
