10 Deflating Things That Always Seem To Happen To Spurs

8. Promising Starts

Sure, there's nothing deflating about a promising start in itself, but when you inevitably go on to fail - back to your more familiar ways, so to speak - those promising starts make that failure all the more difficult to take. Spurs are one team who are great at making promising starts and going on to perform in a way that means it was all in vain. This season is looking to be no different. Spurs won their first two Premier League games and two Europa League games to give them a 100% start from Mauricio Pochettino's opening four matches in charge and now - as a home tie against Stoke City looms - they are ninth in the table having played ten games and have only won two of their last eight in the league. All too often the club soar in the dizzy heights of the league at the start of the season - whether it's just for a few games or whether it's for longer - and inevitably they end up failing to maintain it.
