8. Everton Survive After Stunning Comeback
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnnfvJsN72s On the final day of the 1993/94 campaign, the first Premier League season, Everton knew they had to beat Wimbledon at Goodison Park to stay up, unless Ipswich lost to Blackburn. It would prove to be one of the most nervy, unforgettable days in the history of the club. The game got off to a disastrous start for Mike Walker's side, as the Toffees went 2-0 down within the opening 20 minutes thanks to a Dean Holdsworth penalty and an unlucky Gary Ablett own goal. It looked set to be an extremely depressing afternoon for the blue half of Merseyside. Graham Stuart's nerveless spot-kick made it 2-1 before the interval, but the Toffees still had an uphill climb in the second-half. Barry Horne's fantastic long-range strike levelled the scores, and it was left to Stuart to crown a remarkable comeback. The midfielder finished clinically from the edge of the box late in the day, and Everton had stayed up. They have remained in the Premier League ever since.
