10 Most Expensive Man Utd Transfer Flops In History

6. Nani (£17 million)

Nani is one of only a few of flops on this list to still be playing at Manchester United - though probably not for too much longer. Nani, a £17 million acquisition from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, has endured seven underwhelming seasons at Old Trafford and has only rarely looked like justifying his price tag. The Portuguese international has largely struggled for both form and fitness in that time, making just 22 league appearances for the club since the end of the 2012 campaign, scoring just four goals in all competitions during the same period. He is also a persistent source of frustration among fans for his wastefulness from set-pieces and tendency to shoot from improbable distances despite having better options in front of him, and though Nani has scored the odd thunderbolt or two, these are too rare. The winger signed a new contract at the club only last September, but it looks unlikely at best that he will see out its duration, with speculation linking the wideman with a move to Fiorentina. Very few Red Devils fans would mourn his departure.
