10 Football Teammates Who Absolutely Hated Each Other
2. Mauro Icardi & Maxi Lopez
There's nine years between them, but Argentine forwards Maxi Lopez and Mauro Icardi used to be best friends. The duo forged a close bond prior to playing together at Sampdoria during the 2012/13 season, and while their strike partnership proved effective for Il Doria, their time together is best remembered for what happened off the pitch.
The relationship became toxic when Icardi decided to have an affair with Lopez's wife at the time, then married her six months after her divorce. They were fortunately separated when Icardi joined Inter Milan at the end of the season, but Lopez's disdain remained, and the rivalry shot to national prominence when Maxi refused to shake his former friend's hand before a Serie A game in 2015.
Icardi apologised in the aftermath, but his attempt at taking the moral high ground was soon destroyed when he made the bizarre move of getting Lopez's children tattooed on his arm. The Argentine press later claimed that the mafia had offered to break Icardi's legs for Maxi, but this can't be proven.
Mauro has since flourished as a player, but he continues to pay for the affair. He has made just one full international appearance throughout his career, with Lionel Messi, a close friend of Lopez', supposedly blocking his inclusion.
