10 Football Teams That Over-Performed In 2019/20

3. Granada

Another team many had written off almost instantly following their promotion back into La Liga, and justifiably so.

Following their most recent relegation (20th in La Liga in 2016/17) they finished in an extremely poor 10th in La Liga2 and looked unlikely to mount a revival any time soon.

Queue new manager Diego Martinez.

In his first season in charge (2018/19) he led the Nazaríes to automatic promotion. With a squad made up of rejected talent from clubs far bigger than Granada, survival looked unlikely.

In actuality, they finished in 7th (just 4 points behind 5th placed Villarreal), which earned them a Europa League qualification play-off spot, and reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Some incredible early season form saw them top the table at match-day 10, having already claimed a 2-0 victory over Barcelona.

By the season's end, they had scored one goal more than Atletico Madrid and just two fewer than Sevilla whilst maintaining the 8th best defence in the league, with key performances from star men Darwin Machis, Carlos Fernandez, Rui Silva and Domingos Duarte.

With an average squad age of 25, there is certainly reason to be hopeful going forward.
