10 Football Teams That Under-Performed In 2019/20
8. Galatasaray
Fenerbahce could have easily taken this spot as they finished below their historic rivals in 7th, but as Galatasaray had back-to-back league wins coming into the 2019/20 season, their sharp decline was certainly the less expected of the two Turkish giants.
You could argue that Galatasaray were somewhat unfortunate to have finished as low as they did. By match-day 26 with just 8 games left to play they were up in 3rd.
So how did they finish 6th?
Long-serving goalkeeper and Uruguay international Fernando Muslera picked up an injury that would see him miss the rest of the season on match-day 27, and Gala wouldn't record a single win whilst keeping no clean sheets in their final run-in.
At first glance, their squad is a strange concoction of inexperienced teenagers and players a year or two shy of retirement. Their midfield was slapped together through the loans of Steven N'Zonzi, Mario Lemina and Jean Michael Seri - none of whom were made permanent.
Radamel Falcao's 10 league goals were not enough to save the Turkish giants from their joint-second-lowest finish in the 21st Century and the club faces Europa League qualifying rounds as opposed to the Champions League group stage.
