10 Footballers Who Claimed It Definitely Wasn't All About The Money
4. Emmanuel Adebayor
Another player attracted to the prospect of playing for wealth handed to them by Manchester City's deep pockets and rich owners, Adebayor joined from Arsenal - a club where he was first choice striker for three years - in 2009 on a lucrative five year contract deal. Adebayor not only left the Gunners for more money, he also mocked them after scoring against them in a 4-2 victory by running the whole length of the pitch to celebrate in front of them, as they attempted to climb over each other to have some strong words with him. Having signed a gigantic contract and claiming he was signing to help the team become the best, he played just one season for City before moving on loan to Real Madrid then went on a season-long loan to Tottenham, where he eventually signed on a permanent deal. He did threaten to pull the plug on this deal however because he wasn't happy about taking a pay cut, claiming that "we all play football to get money" - greed at its finest, but at least he didn't hide it. It is thought that Manchester City continued to pay Adebayor £40,000-a-week THREE YEARS after he last kicked a ball for them, and in 2013 he reportedly demanded £1million to leave Tottenham. The more money he gets, the more he seems to crave.
