10 Footballers Who Claimed It Definitely Wasn't All About The Money
3. Samuel Eto'o
Samuel Eto'o has played for some of the best clubs in the world: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, and Chelsea. And he's also played for well-known Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, owned by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov who captured some big names for the club with his investment including Roberto Carlos, Yuri Zhirkov and Guus Hiddink as manager. All of them, no doubt attracted there for "footballing reasons". Eto'o joined the billionaire club in 2011 in a deal which would make him the highest-paid player in the world, with a contract which was worth an unbelievable 20million AFTER taxes. It was a considerably lower standard of football for a player who had dazzled on the biggest stages for years, but clearly the money was too much for him to pass up and he went on to play 53 games for Anzhi over two years, scoring 25 goals in 53 appearanes Eto'o's money grabbing was also evident earlier in his career however, when he demanded 15% of the transfer fee from Barcelona to Inter due to some Spanish rule or other clearly designed to help already rich people get richer. And he also managed to earn 8million playing for Chelsea last season, just to add a little more to his bank account.
