10 Footballers To Play For Both Newcastle And Southampton

3. Leon Best

Southampton: 2004-2007 League Appearances: 15 League Goals: 4 Newcastle United: 2010-2012 League Appearances: 42 League Goals: 10 Best was a signed as a trainee by then-Premier League club Southampton in 2004. He made his professional debut against - you guessed it - Newcastle United in 2004, aged just 18. The Republic of Ireland international striker was then loaned out to five different clubs before signing for Coventry City in 2007 for a fee of £650,000. He made 15 appearances for the Saints and scored four league goals, before netting 10 times in 15 games while on loan at Yeovil Town. Best signed for Newcastle in 2010 for £1.5 million but failed to make an impact during his first season as Newcastle as they battled their way out of the Championship. The striker failed to score but introduced himself in style the following year, scoring a Premier League hat-trick (his first league goals) against West Ham United in a 5-0 home win. Best made 42 appearances and scored four goals before he signed for Blackburn Rovers on a four-year contract for a fee of more than £3 million.
