10 Great Footballers Who Made Terrible Managers

8. Paul Ince

paul ince Paul Ince earned a reputation as one of the best midfield bosses in the whole of Europe during the 90's. A general in Manchester United's midfield where he won two league titles before leaving for a short time playing for Inter Milan. He returned to England, only to alienate all the Man Utd fans who previously adored him by signing for Liverpool, which was a spell that ended acrimoniously due to his fractured relationship with manager, Gerard Houllier. He had a late career resurgence at Wolves, guiding them to the Premier League and making himself a hero to their fans. Ince then took the natural progression into management and decided to take the wise option to start at the bottom and work his way up. He became player-manager at Macclesfield Town where he saved them from relegation which was considered a great feat. He then left to join MK Dons and he guided them to promotion and it was so far so good for Ince and he was considered one of the best young managers in the country. He ended up at Premier League Blackburn and he imploded from there. He took over a stable side but nothing went to plan and a disastrous run of results caused his sacking after just 21 games which yielded just 6 wins. What followed were short and mediocre spells at MK Dons and Notts County and Ince had regressed massively since he originally got MK Dons promoted. After it was assumed his managerial career was over, he was appointed manager of Blackpool where he would coach his son and hot prospect, Thomas. On the day of his appointment, the odds that Blackpool would be relegated were slashed in half, which says all there needs to be said about Paul Ince's managerial ability.
